Gold ETF fees add up over time: a timeline illustrates annual fees gradually reducing gold-equivalent exposure.

Gold ETF Is a Parasite That Silently Eats Your Gold Every Day.

Read this before buying a Gold ETF.

Imagine you invest ₹1 crore in a Gold ETF, equivalent to 1,000g of gold.

At a 1% annual expense ratio, over 10 years, your gold-equivalent exposure shrinks to roughly 900g.

But you won't even notice.

Now imagine gold prices increase 6X in 10 years.

1,000g gold = ₹6 crore

Your ETF's 900g exposure = ₹5.4 crore

₹60 lakh gone in expense drag.

Now you sell.

Assuming a 12.5% long-term capital gains tax on your ₹4.4 crore profit:

Another ₹55 lakh gone in taxes.

You're left with ₹4.85 crore.

That's equivalent to just 810g of gold.

You started with 1,000g.

You ended with 810g worth of money.

190g difference. Without even noticing.

And that's exactly why we built HabitGold differently.

When you buy 1,000g of gold with HabitGold, you own 1,000g.

Even 10 years later, it's still your 1,000g of gold, available for physical delivery, subject to applicable terms and charges.

No annual expense ratio quietly eating away at your gold.

Because we believe your gold should grow in value, not shrink in grams.

What Do These Numbers Mean?

Expense Ratio (TER): The annual fee charged by a Gold ETF to manage your investment. This cost is automatically reflected in the ETF's value.

Tracking Error: Shows how consistently your ETF follows gold benchmark returns. A higher tracking error means less consistent performance compared with the benchmark.

TER + Tracking Error: This shows the ETF's annual management cost and how consistently it tracks gold prices. Your actual returns may be lower than gold's returns, but the difference is not necessarily close to this combined percentage. Tracking error measures fluctuations, not an additional fixed loss.

Why does this matter?

Even small annual expenses can significantly reduce your investment's value over 10–20 years because their impact compounds.
